One minute guide: don't inavertently take responsibility for IT project mistakes...
60 seconds It's instilled in us all. If you want a job done properly you've simply got to do it yourself. 55 seconds Whilst that attitude might help in many situations it certainly won't help contractually. 52 seconds If you've paid your specialist IT supplier for professional advice shouldn't they take responsibility for their project work? 45 seconds If you do take control then you automatically make yourself responsible for any errors that might occur. 38 seconds In other words it becomes very easy for your supplier to turn around and blame you for all the system faults. 32 seconds What you must do is to ensure the supplier directs you - not the other way around. 25 seconds Give them all the help and advice they want but make it very clear who is being paid to get the job done correctly. 20 seconds As the client you are holding the key to vital information, your input is imperative but there's a difference between being professionally helpful and having complete control. The latter can undermine the success of the project. 10 seconds And remember that it's not easy to guide a supplier whilst still ensuring they take responsibility for key decisions. 5 seconds Always ensure the supplier's project manager directs you - not the other way around.
