London Metropolitan University – Online Teaching Partner Procurement

LMU offers a range of courses, for undergraduates and postgraduates, including degrees, short courses and professional qualifications, on a full-time or part-time study basis to meet a range of student needs.  LMU wanted to improve student education and employability outcomes and secure a sustainable commercial and reputational platform for the University. The Target Operating Model (TOM) was to expand its online distance learning course offerings in order to achieve the following outcomes: increase course revenues, increase the quality/number of teachers, improve the learning environment and achievement rates, leading to better employability success rates.

LMU needed a managed-services outsourcing partner to help develop, market and deliver online courses and student engagement, ensuring the end-to-end student journey provided excellent satisfaction ratings and on-going student referrals. This required two platforms:

  1. Marketing, student engagement and recruitment
  2. Online course delivery.

We were engaged to assure all technical, strategic and contractual aspects of the programme and review benefits to assure it could achieve LMU’s educational, commercial and reputational outcomes. This involved:

  • Procurement Readiness Assessment (including assuring LMU’s Business Case and TOM)
  • Assuring a swift start to the procurement process
  • Assuring the procurement process itself
  • Providing ongoing ‘critical friend’ support throughout the online teaching partner procurement and implementation
  • Providing lifecycle benefits assurance: this involved aligning the behaviours to the outcomes, contract, governance and the supplier’s ‘expert responsibilities’.
